The victims, the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Olatunde Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, David Ogunsola, were attacked while returning from a security meeting in Irele-Ekiti on Monday.
The monarchs, traveling with the Alara of Ikole Ekiti, Adebayo Fatoba, were ambushed by gunmen in an area known as “Ayo Shock” between Ipao and Oke Ako. While Fatoba managed to escape, the Onimojo and Elesun were tragically killed in the ambush.
The attackers reportedly attempted to kidnap the three traditional rulers.
In response to this tragic incident, President Tinubu issued a statement through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
The statement, titled ‘President Tinubu condemns killing of traditional rulers in Ekiti, directs immediate rescue of kidnapped pupils,’ expressed the President’s condolences to the families, subjects, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, and the people of Ekiti State.
“President Tinubu condemns this mindless and brutal bloodletting, and pledges that the perpetrators will not escape justice,” the statement read.
Further more, President Tinubu also directed the immediate rescue of pupils and teachers who were kidnapped in the Eporo-Ekiti area of the State. At least six pupils, three teachers, and a bus driver from Apostolic Faith School, Ekiti, were abducted by unknown gunmen on Monday night.
