Eko Hot Blog reports in a tragic incident on the Dorman-long Bridge in Lagos State, a dispatch rider lost his life in a suspected hit-and-run accident during the early hours of Tuesday.

The yet-to-be-identified rider was reportedly struck by a vehicle, and despite efforts by road safety officials and other witnesses to apprehend the driver, the perpetrator managed to flee the scene.

EDITOR’S PICK:

A video shared on the @Gidi_Traffic X handle captured the aftermath of the incident, showing a concerned motorist attempting to capture the fleeing driver’s details.

In the video, the motorist is heard calling for the arrest of the driver, who allegedly sped off after the fatal collision.

The motorist, frustrated by the inability to capture the vehicle’s number plate, attempted to overtake and film the driver’s face. The accused driver, however, maintained a straight face, seemingly ignoring the accusations leveled against him.

Confirming the tragic incident, Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), stated that the dispatch rider died on the spot.

Taofiq shared insights into the circumstances surrounding the incident, noting that the dispatch rider was accused of reckless driving after colliding with a high-speed vehicle on the Dorman-long Bridge.

According to Taofiq, efforts to apprehend the hit-and-run driver were hindered by the inability to obtain the vehicle’s registration number in the midst of similar cars on the road. He explained, “All efforts to trace him proved abortive. The driver ran away.”

FUTHER READING:

The tragic incident caused mild traffic disruption as other dispatch riders, in solidarity with their deceased colleague, attempted to block the road.

LASTMA officials were reportedly working to manage the situation and restore order on the affected route.
