FCT Police Successfully Rescue Two Kidnap Victims In Nasarawa Operation

Eko Hot Blog reports In a commendable display of swift and coordinated action against criminality, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command successfully rescued two female kidnapped victims, Sarah Hassan and Erima Bobo-John, who were abducted from the Kobi community in Abuja on January 31.

The victims, seized around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, were en route to Nasarawa State when vigilant police officers, aided by Nigerian Army soldiers at a military checkpoint, intercepted and thwarted the abduction.

FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, shared details of the successful rescue in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, “FCT police operatives attached to Asokoro Police Divisional Headquarters, in a coordinated operation and continued effort against criminality in FCT, rescued two kidnapped victims in the early hours of January 31, 2024, at about 1 a.m.”

Following a report of the abduction of Sarah Hassan and Mrs. Erima Bobo-John in Kobi community, Asokoro Divisional Headquarters promptly initiated a response.

The police operatives trailed the kidnappers to Nyanya/Keffi Road, where they encountered resistance from the suspected criminals.

“A gunfight ensued, and the bandits were overpowered and forced to abandon their victims,” Adeh stated, highlighting the resilience of the police, noting that despite the armed confrontation, the bandits were subdued, leading to the safe rescue of the victims.

The police spokesperson described the incident: “On sighting the police operatives, the bandits engaged them in a gun duel and were outlasted by the firepower of the police, which forced them to abandon the victims and scamper to safety through the nearby forest. The victims, who have been reunited with their families, were rescued unhurt.”

This successful operation adds to ongoing efforts by security forces to address the challenges of kidnapping and insecurity in the region.

The incident comes in the wake of increased concerns about the prevalence of kidnapping, prompting protests by groups like the Middle-Belt Youth Forum on January 17.
