‘Africa Lost Her Greatest Naturalist Actor’ – Tola Adeniyi Mourns Jimi Solanke
Eko Hot Blog reports that High Chief Tola Adeniyi, the President, Tola Adeniyi Foundation for Theatre and the Arts (TAFTA), has mourned the demise of legendary actor, Jimi Solanke.
Solanke, an actor, folk singer, playwright, dramatist, producer, director, choreographer, theatre teacher, painter, sculptor and guitarist, passed away on Monday at 81 in Ogun State.
The talented playwright was said to have been in and out of hospital from December until he died yesterday.
In a tribute, Adeniyi described the deceased as Africa’s greatest naturalist actor in the tradition of legendary Stanislavski.
The TAFTA founder, who said the news of Solanke’s death ruined his Monday breakfast, sent his condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
“The news of the demise of Africa’s greatest and best stage actor of all time splashed on my face this morning ruined my breakfast,” the statement reads.
“Thespian, folk singer, Poet, playwright, dramatist, producer, director, choreographer, theatre teacher, painter, sculptor and guitarist etcetera. Bundle of talents.
“Africa has lost her greatest naturalist actor in the tradition of legendary Stanislavski.
“Please accept our shared condolences. May his outstandingly creative soul march on in the Continuum.”
