Their message rarely goes beyond preaching endurance despite no end in sight to the nation’s problems.
However, Nigerians have done nothing but endure while their capacity for pain is overstretched. In recent weeks, surging inflation has prompted emergency measures like forex crackdowns and food raids, showing no clear plan existed to contain fallouts.
When President Tinubu pronounced “subsidy is gone,” it signaled winging things without a method. His lack of prudent economic management record makes preaching patience difficult.
Beyond politicians, even Tinubu’s family members have urged endurance from privileged positions. Former CBN governor Sanusi blamed “living a fake lifestyle” while Emir, absolving Tinubu.
But when leaders splurge and budget billions for themselves, they cannot lecture citizens to endure hard times. The wastage by the ruling class happened despite preaching patience.
Nigerians have endured and hoped for a better future under successive leaders without delivery. Senator Oshiomhole blames “Buhari’s reckless years” after previously blaming PDP’s “16 years.” There seems no end to weaponizing Nigerians’ endurance.
