Eko Hot Blog reports that Dr. Olusegun Babafemi, Medical Director of Gbagada General Hospital, has praised the recently renovated children’s ward, a collaboration between Rotary Club Gbagada and The George Charitable Foundation.
In his remarks, Dr. Babafemi said the hospital receives many pediatric cases as both a general hospital and referral facility. “Since we have a sizable number of these that are pediatric children, that prompted us to also have children’s departments. And if you have children’s departments, you have to admit them. So that’s why we have a children’s ward in the hospital,” he explained.
According to the MD, the children’s ward was originally built in 1989 by Rotary Club Gbagada. He commended the club for returning over 30 years later to modernize the building with a better ceiling and environment.
Dr. Babafemi described the active outpatient department, which provides care and conducts investigations for numerous patients daily. The most critical pediatric cases are admitted to the emergency ward, while more stable patients go to the general children’s ward.
He also mentioned an upcoming maternal health project called the O&G Wellness Center, developed in conjunction with partners, due to be commissioned in three weeks.
Overall, Dr. Babafemi expressed appreciation for the multiple projects at Gbagada Hospital. “There are so many projects in Gbagada. Thank you very much,” he concluded.
The revamped children’s ward will enable improved pediatric care at the busy hospital. Dr. Babafemi’s remarks highlight the importance of the upgrade and the need for continued facility improvement through collaborations like that between the Rotary Club and The George Foundation.
