West Brom Solidify Their Hold on Champion Play-off Position

Mikey Johnston and Grady Diangana scored before half-time at The Hawthorns in the Baggies’ first match since entrepreneur Shilen Patel officially took over the club on Wednesday, paving the way for a victory.
Haji Wright scored a penalty for Coventry, bringing them within one goal 17 minutes before the end, reigniting their hopes for a draw. Despite their efforts to level the score, West Brom secured all three points by holding on to the lead.
The victory propelled the Baggies to fifth place, establishing a seven-point lead over seventh-placed Norwich. Meanwhile, Coventry maintained their position in ninth, trailing the play-off spots by four points.
The Premier League guarantees places for only the top two teams at the end of the regular season, with the remaining promotion spot determined through play-off games involving the teams finishing third to sixth.
West Brom took just six minutes to score against Coventry, as on-loan Celtic winger Johnston skillfully beat two defenders and curled a shot into the far corner. They secured a 2-1 lead before the break when Diangana converted Fellows’s cross.

Despite Coventry pulling a goal back in the 73rd minute, Championship leaders Leicester lead by six points, with Leeds and Ipswich tied for second.
