Maikusa, known as the second-in-command within the terrorist network in the region, met his end during a counterinsurgency operation conducted on March 4th, 2024, in the Kurfi and Safana Local Government Areas.
Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, revealed the intense engagement, stating, “Troops encountered vehement resistance from the violent extremists during the encounter, but gallantly overpowered the terrorists with superior firepower leading to the killings of the four while others fled in disarray.” The operation also resulted in the successful clearing of terrorists’ hideouts in the mentioned areas.
During the operation, the Army recovered significant ammunition and weaponry from the terrorists, including two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, 65 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, a locally fabricated gun, and camouflage uniforms.
