Eko Hot Blog reports that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has denied reports that a fire broke out at the Murtala Muhammad Airport in Lagos State.

The authority dismissed the reports in a statement on its X account Thursday evening.

Some media outlets had reported that passengers scampered for safety Thursday morning as fire broke out at the airport.

The fire reportedly triggered a power outage at the E-Arrival section of the Lagos International Airport and threw the old terminal into confusion.

Workers and passengers at the facility were said to have pulled out of the section where thick smoke was billowing to the larger departure hall.

A team of firefighting personnel and their equipment were subsequently deployed to the scene to put out the alleged fire.

However, FAAN explained that the incident at the airport was limited to a minor wire spark, which didn’t result in a fire incident.

It added that the incident did not disrupt airport operations.

The agency, therefore, criticised the media reports as “misleadingly sensationalised.”

“Today’s incident at the airport was limited to a minor wire spark in one of the units and has already been addressed,” the agency said.

“It was not a fire-related incident and did not disrupt any airport operations.
