Surviving Inflation: Ohuabunwa's Plea For Medical Palliatives Resonates
  • Ex-MAN President Sam Ohuabunwa calls for medical palliatives to combat inflation’s impact
  • Highlights the need to safeguard lives by ensuring access to affordable medication
  • Urges the government to broaden its palliative measures beyond food distributions

Eko Hot Blog reports that in a clarion call for comprehensive relief measures, former Chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and ex-President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Sam Ohuabunwa, has advised the federal government to commence medical palliatives to save Nigerians from the dire consequences of inflated drug prices and limited access to quality healthcare.

Speaking in Arochukwu, Arochukwu LGA of Abia State, Ohuabunwa emphasized the urgency of adopting a holistic approach to address the nation’s economic woes, ensuring that Nigerians, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, do not succumb to preventable illnesses due to their inability to afford medication or effectively manage their health issues.

“There is high inflation in the country and devaluation of the naira. Most of the raw materials and finished materials are imported,” Ohuabunwa stated. “So, this is why the government should pay attention. While they are paying attention to food palliatives, they should also give medicine palliatives.”

Ohuabunwa observed that while the previous and current administrations have commendably distributed food palliatives, the effectiveness of such programs would be limited if medical palliatives were not provided to preserve lives. He underscored the significance of ensuring access to affordable healthcare, stating, “I am hearing about food palliatives. I know that food is good, but Nigerians also need medical palliatives to survive.”
