In a statement released on Sunday, the Audu family refuted the “spurious and ridiculous rumors” circulating on social media platforms, alleging that Bello is being kept in their family residence in Ogbonocha, Ofu Local Government Area of the state.
The statement, signed by Mohammed Abubakar, son of Prince Audu, clarified that their family home is strictly a private residence for family members and is not intended to serve as a refuge for any political figure, past or present.
The family emphasized their commitment to upholding the principles of honesty and integrity embodied by the late Prince Abubakar Audu throughout his lifetime.
The Audu family urged the public to exercise caution and discernment when encountering such sensationalist claims, recognizing them as baseless conjecture designed to sow confusion. They reiterated their dedication to preserving the dignity of their late patriarch’s memory.
The denial from the Audu family comes amid ongoing investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into alleged fraud worth N80 billion involving Yahaya Bello, his chief of staff, Alli Bello, and one Daudu Suleiman.
The EFCC had previously laid siege to Bello’s residence in Abuja in an attempt to arrest him, but he was reportedly rescued by the current Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo.
