Speaking at a public lecture organized by the Treasure Newspaper, themed “Homegrown Economy: A Roadmap for Economic Sustainability – Examining the Prospects under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Administration,” Dr. Mayegun stressed the importance of imposing strict penalties to discourage corrupt behavior.

He referenced China’s stringent anti-corruption measures, including the death penalty for embezzlement, as a potential example to follow.
His proposals sparked a spirited debate among participants, with some supporting the necessity of strong actions against corruption, while others expressed reservations about the moral implications of enforcing the death penalty.
The public lecture sought to foster constructive dialogues and examine viable strategies for enhancing Nigeria’s economic progress and advancement.
Moreover, he emphasized the significance of understanding political economy, asserting, “Politics is pivotal to overcoming our economic challenges. It’s essential for individuals to comprehend the dynamics and roles of key players in the nation.”
He also spoke on the necessity for constitutional reform, citing the instance of gold resources in Osun and Kogi states being controlled by the Federal Government due to the current constitution.
