Labour Party Names Edo As The Hub For ‘Obidient’ Movement

Eko Hot Blog reports that on Tuesday, the leadership of the Labour Party designated Edo State as the stronghold for the Obedient Movement nationwide.

The party asserted that observers of its progress over the past two years are aware that Edo State remains the epicenter of the Obedient Movement
Having provided over 75 percent of the total votes cast in the recent presidential election.
This information was revealed in a statement released by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh.
During a campaign road walk in prominent cities of Edo State to garner support for its gubernatorial candidate, Olumide Akpata.
He said, “Edo state is the capital of the Obidient Movement in Nigeria. It is our support base, and we have the best candidate for the election.
“It shows clearly during the last general election when the Labour Party won over 75 per cent of the total votes cast in the presidential election.
“The support is still there and we gave the people the candidate they demanded. We therefore insist on fair play in the conduct of the election.”
The Obedient Movement, birthed during the lead-up to the 2023 general election, consists of young Nigerians.
They envision a revitalized Nigeria through the candidacy of LP Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi.
The impact of the movement was felt when it powered the Labour Party to a stunning performance at the February 25 presidential and national legislative elections.
In response to Tuesday’s campaign walk in Edo, Ifoh observed that the significant turnout in support of their gubernatorial candidate.
Also signaled an imminent shift in power leading up to the September 21 governorship election. He said, “The fitness test has just awakened the spirit of the Edolites.
“It is a march that is suggestive of the strength, character, resilience and capability of our candidate being the youngest amongst the top contenders in that election.
“The state has suffered so much in the hands of the old order.
This is the time for power to change hands to a mobile generation, which the Labour Party and Obidient stand for, to trigger a positive change in the state.”
Moreso, the party cautioned against the utilization of state agents and other political opponents to sabotage its campaign, while urging other contestants to adhere to the rules.
Hence, the impact of the movement was felt when it powered the Labour Party to a stunning performance at the February 25 presidential and national legislative elections.
To date, LP has one elected governor, 35 members of the House of Representatives and eight senators to its credit.

His caution follows the indefinite suspension imposed on the University of Benin Student Union Government by the school administration.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the UNIBEN Registrar, Ademola Bobola, the action was taken in response to an attack on Akpata by certain students believed to be union members.
