According to the municipality of George, situated along the coast east of Cape Town, twenty-two people have been successfully rescued and transported to nearby hospitals.

However, the grim reality persists, with Western Cape premier Alan Winde confirming the loss of two lives and the harrowing predicament of 53 individuals still trapped beneath the rubble.

George Mayor Leon van Wyk emphasized the arduous nature of the rescue operation, noting the necessity for meticulous recall of cries for help amidst the chaos.
