Fortunately, dozens of people sprang into action to free the distressed animals.
Initially, firefighters received a call about the horses stuck in a swampy area behind a farm at approximately 2 p.m., as reported by the Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department on Facebook.
Subsequently, fire officials orchestrated a massive response effort, shuttling in a multitude of vehicles and mobilizing 40 individuals equipped with essential tools such as ropes, wood, saws, plywood, rescue equipment, veterinary supplies, food, and water.
As the situation unfolded, responders cleared a roadway and established a makeshift bridge, paving the way for a successful rescue operation.
However, upon the arrival of the Durham Animal Response Team, the horses were carefully rolled out of the waist-deep mud onto a sled device, marking the culmination of a five-hour ordeal.
