Moreover, the northern Gaza Strip has become a hotbed of intense fighting, with clashes erupting more than seven months into the Israel-Hamas war.

On Wednesday, five soldiers lost their lives “in battle,” according to an army statement, which initially did not disclose the cause of their deaths.

Furthermore, the latest fatalities bring the total number of Israeli troops killed in the Gaza military campaign since the start of the ground offensive on October 27 to 278, a sobering reminder of the human cost of conflict.

Meanwhile, fighting has intensified in recent days in northern Gaza, with an Israeli army spokesman attributing the surge in violence to “attempts by Hamas to rebuild its military capabilities” months after Israel declared the Palestinian armed group’s command structure in the area dismantled.
