#KogiDecides: Dino Melaye Suffers Another Loss In His Local Government
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Kogi West senatorial district re-run election, Smart Adeyemi, has defeated Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ijumu local government.
Both candidates are from the local government.
While Mr Adeyemi is an indigene of Iyara, Dino Melaye is from Aiyetoro, a neighbouring village.
The final result for the local government was announced on Sunday morning.
Mr Adeyemi’s APC polled a total of 11,627 votes while Mr Melaye’s PDP amassed 7,647 votes in the local government, according to the electoral commission, INEC. The candidate of the SDP, Natasha Akpoti, came a distant third with 49 votes.
Ijumu is part of Kogi West senatorial district, the district the candidates seek to represent in the Senate.
According to Premium Times, the elections in Ijumu were characterized by violence, with armed thugs shooting sporadically and chasing voters and election observers.
Ijumu local government has a total registered voters of 59,578, while 20,199 were accredited to vote on Saturday. There were cancelations in five PUs across three RACs due to violence.
Other results so far released by INEC showed that the APC also won in Kabba Bunu local government with 15,437 votes to defeat the PDP which had 8974.
In Lokoja Local Government Area, the APC won with 14,168 votes and the PDP polled 9786. In Moa Muro, the APC also won with 4874 votes while the PDP got 3704.
The PDP however defeated the APC in Yagba East with 7,745, with the APC polling 6,683.
