This initiative is a public-private partnership aimed at advancing transport infrastructure to provide reliable, safe, and efficient transportation, aligning with global sustainable development goals (SDGs).

At the inauguration ceremony held at the Caverton Marine Shipyard in Badore-Ajah, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significant potential for marine transport in Lagos, where 22% of the landmass is covered by water, and waterways surround 42 of its 57 local governments and local council development areas (LCDAs).
The governor emphasized that the investment is designed to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of people, goods, and services, contributing to the state’s economic growth.
“This project marks the first phase of our plan to enhance marine transportation in Lagos with an eventual total of 25 ferries,” Sanwo-Olu stated. He underscored the importance of the initiative in transforming the transportation landscape of Lagos and improving the quality of life for its residents.

Olabode Makanjuola, Chief Executive Officer of Caverton Group, echoed the governor’s sentiments, stressing the project’s role in enhancing mobility, reducing traffic congestion, and improving residents’ quality of life through strategic infrastructure development.
He noted that the project aligns with the administration’s transportation vision, which aims to create an integrated transportation infrastructure that enhances connectivity and mobility with an improved water transport system.
Makanjuola proudly pointed out that the ferries, built in Lagos, are certified by Bureau Veritas and the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and come equipped with modern safety features to ensure a secure and comfortable journey for passengers.
He emphasized that the project symbolizes Caverton’s commitment to local development, innovation, quality, and safety, and praised the state’s support in integrating water transportation into its intermodal system.
Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), hailed the initiative as a bold step towards achieving a more efficient, sustainable, and accessible transportation system.
He emphasized that the OMIBUS ferries project is not just about improving transportation but also about transforming lives, connecting communities, fostering economic growth, and reducing the stress and congestion of daily commutes.
In his goodwill message, Temitope Adewale, Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Transportation, commended the public-private partnership and assured that legislators would ensure supportive laws and policies for funding transport infrastructure and ferry production.
He praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to infrastructure development, noting that an intermodal transport system would effectively reduce road traffic and create better connectivity between waterways, rail, and road transport.
Seun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner of Transport, reiterated that the ferries are a testament to the collective commitment to enhance the quality of life for all Lagos residents.
He highlighted the initiative’s goal of connecting communities, fostering economic growth, and reducing daily stress and congestion, reflecting an unwavering dedication to progress and innovation.
