Eko Hot Blog reports Nigeria’s Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has expressed his profound appreciation for the efforts of Prof. Babatunde Salako, Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR).

Dr. Alausa’s remarks came during the commissioning of the new Human Virology and Genomics facility at NIMR, where he acknowledged the successful establishment of the National Health Research Committee (NHRC) office within the institute.
The minister recounted his request to Prof. Salako six months prior, asking if NIMR could accommodate the NHRC.
On Friday, he announced that the NIMR director general had met this request, underscoring his dedication to enhancing the country’s research capabilities.
“I would like to take this time to applaud Prof. Babatunde Salako for his commitment to the betterment of our country’s research prowess and taking NIMR to the next level during his eight-year tenure as DG,” Dr. Alausa stated.
He also lauded Prof. Salako’s team of researchers for their unwavering dedication to improving Nigeria’s health indices.
The newly established NHRC office at NIMR is poised to become a pivotal entity in Nigeria’s health research landscape.
Dr. Alausa emphasized that the NHRC, now situated at the heart of NIMR, can more effectively guide and support research initiatives that align with national health priorities.
The committee will enforce standards, transparency, and accountability in research studies conducted across the country, breathing new life into Nigeria’s research sector.
“With this new office, NHRC can stay close to the heart of their cause, and continue working towards guiding and supporting research initiatives that align with our national health priorities,” Dr. Alausa remarked.
“This move will enforce standards, transparency, and accountability when conducting research studies in Nigeria, and ultimately breathe new life into Nigeria’s research sector.”
The health minister further extended his gratitude to Prof. Salako and his team for their instrumental role in making this vision a reality.
