  • Governor Siminalayi Fubara has directed heads of local government administration (HLGAs) to take charge of Rivers State’s 23 council areas following the end of the elected officials’ tenure.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Tuesday, directed heads of local government administrations (HLGAs) to assume control of the state’s 23 council areas.

This directive follows the expiration of the statutory three-year tenure of the elected chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors.

Governor Fubara issued the directive in a statewide broadcast, emphasizing the importance of maintaining continuity and stability in local governance.

The governor stated, “Heads of Local Government Administration are hereby directed to immediately take charge of the councils with renewed vigor and readiness to serve. Await further directives as we navigate towards even greater accomplishments together.”

He further added, “As we move forward in ensuring that the constitution is upheld, and that law and order are maintained, I hereby direct HLGAs to continue to provide leadership in their respective local government areas. We will continue to strive to provide leadership and direction for our people.”

This decision aims to ensure the smooth operation and governance of local council areas while awaiting further instructions from the state government.

He thanked the elected chairmen and councillors for their service, which, according to him, expired yesterday.

Recall that Degema and Asari-Toru councils were enveloped by anxiety as youths took over the secretariats, following the expiration of the tenure of chairmen, councillors, and other council officials, on Monday.
