A former governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande, has charged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to strengthen the party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Eko Hot Blog reports that this call comes in the wake of the party’s defeat in the July 2022 governorship election, where the APC lost power to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
During a stakeholders’ meeting hosted in Ila, Akande’s country home, key party leaders and members, including the former governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, gathered to discuss the party’s future.
At the meeting, the party unanimously adopted Oyetola as the leader of the APC in Osun State.
In a communique issued after the meeting, signed by Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the stakeholders urged party members to exclude disloyal elements from participating in the party’s electronic registration.
They also emphasized the need for unity and urged members to avoid divisive behaviors.
Akande stressed the importance of strengthening the party in preparation for the 2026 election and highlighted the formal adoption of a state party leader as a crucial step.
The motion to adopt Oyetola as the leader was moved by Senator Ajibola Basiru and seconded by Pa Gbadebo Ajao, receiving unanimous support from the stakeholders.
The meeting concluded with a call for solidarity within the party, emphasizing the necessity of unity to reclaim power in the next governorship election.
