Eko Hot Blog reports that Not fewer than 4,459 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties in Benue defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defections took place in Katsina-Ala and Adikpo during Governor Hyacinth Alia’s state-wide thank you tour to express gratitude for the support that led to his victory in the last general elections.
Alia thanked the Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency for their overwhelming support that led to his triumph in the 2023 governorship election.
He reiterated his administration’s determination to return all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) displaced by armed herders’ attacks to their ancestral homes.
While expressing concern that Sankera, a major yam production hub in the country, was severely affected by these attacks, he urged everyone to join hands with his administration to eliminate these attacks.

He also encouraged the formation of Cooperative Societies to receive farm inputs and other benefits, helping people become self-reliant.
Addressing rumours about borrowing huge sums for infrastructure projects, Alia announced the award of a contract for the construction of the Sankera-Chito-Vaase road to improve security in the area.
Alia revealed that he had contacted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assistance in constructing more road networks in Sankera.
According to him, the President approved the construction of the Katsina-Ala Head Bridge-Hausa Quarters/Victory Bible Church Wukari Junction and the Zaki-Biam Yam Market-Iwar Ior-Y Junction roads. Alia urged patience, affirming that the President has good intentions for the state.
The State Acting Chairman of the APC, Benjamin Omakolo, welcomed the defectors to the party and promised an enabling environment for both new and old members.
He called for continued support for the Alia administration to advance the state’s development.
