The National Population Commission (NPC) Lagos State, led by Barrister Saidat Olayinka Oladunjoye, visited UNICEF’s Lagos Field Office to seek support for enhancing Lagos’s Vital Registration System, with both parties emphasizing the importance of political will and collaboration.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the National Population Commission (NPC) Lagos State, led by Honourable Federal Commissioner Barrister Saidat Olayinka Oladunjoye, paid a courtesy visit to UNICEF Chief of Lagos Field Office, Mrs. Celine Lafoucriere, on June 20, 2024.
The delegation included State Director Mr. Bamidele Sadiku, HOD PM&A Mrs. Samiat Lawal, HOD VRD Mr. Amuda Garfa, HOD Admin Mrs. Olayinka Chijioke, and Personal Assistant to the HFC Mr. Muyiwa Okesanya.

The primary objective of the visit was to seek collaboration and support from UNICEF to enhance the Vital Registration System in Lagos State.
Barrister Oladunjoye emphasized the need for additional registration centers to increase birth registration across the state. She highlighted the necessity for support in infrastructure, equipment, personnel training, and publicity to ensure effective mobilization.
Mrs. Celine Lafoucriere, the UNICEF Chief of Lagos Field Office representative, expressed her gratitude to the NPC delegation and congratulated Barrister Oladunjoye on her appointment. She underscored the significance of identity for children, noting, “Identity makes a child proud of who they are; it gives them the right values and education that will guide their future.” Mrs. Celine Lafoucriere assured the HFC of UNICEF’s full support in establishing more centers for birth registration, including setting up offices in primary health centers equipped with the necessary tools and trained personnel. She also proposed the involvement of young volunteers, who would be properly trained and equipped for the task.
Furthermore, Mrs. Celine Lafoucriere stressed the importance of political will in achieving these goals, to which Barrister Oladunjoye responded affirmatively.
She assured that she would leverage her experience and connections, particularly her previous role as Vice Chairman of Lagos East Senatorial District, to engage with youth leaders and drive the initiative forward.
