The initial bid from Chelsea for the 20-year-old, Samu Omorodion, was approximately £33.8m, with around £25.4m to be paid upfront and the remainder in add-ons.
However, Atletico Madrid promptly turned down the offer, valuing Omorodion as a pivotal prospect for the future.
Especially after his promising loan stint at Alaves under Diego Simeone’s guidance.
During the 2023/24 season, the Spanish-Nigerian striker scored eight goals in 35 matches before making a move to Atletico from Granada for just €6m (£5.1m).
With four years left on his contract, Omorodion is not set to become a free agent anytime soon, relieving Atletico of any urgency to part ways with the young talent.
However, his impressive performances have also caught the attention of West Ham United.
Despite their initial rejection, Atletico Madrid is prepared for a second bid for the striker from Chelsea, as reported by Football Insider.
The Blues remain undeterred and perceive Omorodion as possessing the potential to thrive in the Premier League.
Despite being relatively unknown, as a result, the possibility of a deal remains uncertain.
At 6ft 4in tall, Omorodion is yet to make his senior debut for Atletico Madrid but has already notched two goals in seven appearances for Spain’s Under-21 team.
His lone senior outing for Granada saw him score against Atletico Madrid in a 3-1 La Liga defeat before moving to Diego Simeone’s side.
Despite his limited experience, the Spain youth international is among Chelsea’s offensive targets for the summer transfer window.
