ANPA and MDCN signed an MoU to secure WFME accreditation for Nigeria’s medical education, aiming to enhance healthcare standards and integrate diaspora physicians into the local system.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a landmark development for Nigeria’s healthcare sector, the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU is to collaborate on securing accreditation for Nigeria’s undergraduate medical education by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).

This MoU represents a significant stride towards enhancing the quality and stability of Nigeria’s medical education system.

It aims to improve the skill set and capacity of the country’s healthcare workforce, aligning with global standards.

Dr. Tunji Alausa, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, expressed the Federal Government’s full support for MDCN’s efforts to facilitate licensing for Nigerian physicians in the diaspora.

This initiative will enable these professionals to practice in Nigeria, contributing their expertise to the local healthcare system.

The agreement was formalized during ANPA’s Annual Convention in California, where Dr. Alausa led the Nigerian delegation in discussions with ANPA members.

Dr. Alausa highlighted the health ministry’s Healthcare Professional in the Diaspora (HPD) initiative, which aims to integrate Nigerian doctors abroad into the national healthcare framework.

Dr. Alausa emphasized the importance of leveraging national and global networks to drive productivity in the healthcare sector.
