Delivering a keynote address at the event, Dr. Tunji Alausa, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, underscored Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging digital innovation to enhance healthcare delivery nationwide.
Dr. Alausa, serving as the Special Guest of Honor, emphasized that amidst global challenges highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic, digital transformation is essential for building resilient healthcare systems.
Defining digital transformation in healthcare, the minister highlighted its components, including electronic health records, telemedicine, mobile health applications, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.
These technologies, he emphasized, are crucial for improving efficiency, effectiveness, and accessibility of healthcare services.
Dr. Alausa also elucidated on the significance of digital transformation, noting its potential to enhance patient care and safety, extend healthcare services to remote areas, and optimize resource allocation within healthcare systems.
He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts involving governments, private sector partners, healthcare providers, and communities to achieve these goals.
Drawing attention to Nigeria’s proactive stance, Dr. Alausa cited the country’s ambitious digital health initiatives under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Nigeria Digital in Health Initiative (NDHI) has been launched to establish a unified and interoperable digital health ecosystem.
This initiative includes robust stakeholder engagement, regulatory framework enhancements, and substantial budget allocations amounting to $15 million for digital health solutions.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Alausa affirmed that digital transformation in healthcare is not merely a goal but an ongoing journey requiring dedication and innovation.
