In a statement on Monday, the LASPA boss noted the hazards associated with their operations and unregulated parking activities.
She highlighted recent incidents that underscored the risks of using unauthorised parking facilities and unapproved road sections for parking, which not only endanger public safety but also hinder the state’s efforts in traffic management
“Operating or using unregulated car parks poses significant risks to vehicle owners and pedestrians,” Mrs. Adelabu said.
She stated that such facilities often lack oversight and safety measures, making them prone to security breaches and accidents.
Addressing the impact of uncoordinated parking on traffic flow, the LASPA GM emphasised that converting unapproved road sections into makeshift parking areas is illegal and disrupts traffic patterns, leading to congestion and increasing accident risks.
On unauthorised individuals soliciting parking fees, she stated that Lagos State no longer tolerates such activities.
“The involvement of touts or unauthorised individuals in soliciting parking fees is illegal and should be reported immediately,” she declared.
While noting that their actions confuse the public and disrupt order, the Mrs. Adelabu reiterated the determination of the agency to eradicate the menace of touting and unauthorised parking activities in Lagos State.
She stressed LASPA’s commitment to enforcing parking regulations rigorously and promoting good parking culture.
“We are deeply concerned about the risks posed by illegal car park operators and unauthorised parking activities,” the parking authority’s boss said.
“Our priority is to safeguard public safety and ensure strict compliance with Lagos State Parking Policy.”
She, therefore, urged residents and visitors to use only approved parking facilities displaying clear regulatory signage.
