‘Moment To Strengthen Ties’ – UK PM Starmer Calls Tinubu
President Tinubu and UK Prime Minister Starmer reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing trade and security relations between Nigeria and the UK during a congratulatory phone call.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations between their countries as Commonwealth partners.
During a phone call on Wednesday, Starmer congratulated Tinubu on Nigeria’s 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, while Tinubu praised Starmer for his recent electoral success.

A statement from the UK Prime Minister’s office detailed the conversation, highlighting the leaders’ focus on the longstanding partnership between the UK and Nigeria, particularly in areas of trade and security.
Both leaders see this as an opportune moment to strengthen their relationship and work closely together to boost economic growth and prosperity through the Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership.
The statement reads: “The President congratulated the Prime Minister on his recent election victory, and the Prime Minister commended the President as Nigeria marks twenty-five years of unbroken democracy.
“The Prime Minister reflected on the important relationship between the UK and Nigeria, grounded in cooperation on trade and security as Commonwealth partners, with long-standing ties between our people.
“The leaders welcomed this moment as an opportunity to reset and strengthen this relationship, working closely together to drive economic growth and prosperity between our countries, including through the Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership.”
Starmer’s recent ascension to Prime Minister followed the Labour Party’s victory in securing 326 parliamentary seats, ending the Conservative Party’s 14-year tenure at Number 10.
