Republican Reacts to Kamala Harris' VP Pick, Tim Walz

The Republican Party has offered responses to the announcement of Tim Walz as the Vice Presidential nominee alongside Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Eko Hot Blog reports that Republicans have taken to social media to frame Harris’s vice presidential pick as a figure of the far left.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a former candidate in the presidential race, says Harris and Walz are “the most left-wing ticket in American history”.

Republican House Majority Whip Tom Emmer echoed this sentiment, criticizing Harris’ policy positions.

“Harris embodies the same disastrous economic, open-borders and soft-on-crime policies she has inflicted on our country,” Emmer stated.

He also described Harris as “an empty suit who has worked to turn the nation into her home state of California” — a criticism reminiscent of the Trump-Vance campaign rhetoric.

Several Republicans also suggested that Harris’ nomination might inadvertently benefit Trump by galvanizing his base.

Trump’s former senior adviser, Kellyanne Conway, expressed this view on social media, writing: “Kamala Harris? What a relief.”

EDITOR’S PICK:

The Republican response to Harris’ nomination underscores the strategic efforts to frame the Biden-Harris ticket in a light that could bolster support among conservative voters as the campaign season heats up.

Before the criticism from the Republican supporter, Harris had taken to X to announce Tim Walz as her running mate.

“I am proud to announce that I’ve asked Tim Walz to be my running mate. As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his. It’s great to have him on the team,” she stated.

Meet Tim Walz

Timothy James Walz, born April 6, 1964, is an American politician, former U.S. Army non-commissioned officer, and retired educator who has served as the 41st governor of Minnesota since 2019.

A member of the Democratic Party, Walz previously represented Minnesota’s 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2019.

Walz was elected governor of Minnesota on November 6, 2018, defeating Republican nominee Jeff Johnson, and was reelected in 2022 against Republican nominee Scott Jensen.

Analysts believe that his extensive experience in both state and federal government was probably the reason for his selection.

With Walz’s emergence, the battle is now set for the November 5, 2024 presidential election.
