Rights groups have criticized the election results, arguing that the overwhelming victory margin reflects a lack of democratic processes in Rwanda. The election, held on July 15, saw only two candidates running against Kagame, with eight other potential candidates, including his most vocal critics, disqualified by the electoral commission.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that during his oath of office, Kagame committed to preserving peace, national sovereignty, and unity. He vowed to avoid using his powers for personal gain and promised to adhere to the rule of law.

Kagame has been a dominant figure in Rwanda since his forces took power following the 1994 genocide, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 800,000 ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus. Since then, he has aimed to transform Rwanda into the “Singapore of Africa,” fostering stability and development in the country.
