Refrain From Attacking Israel, Starmer Pleads With Iran
UK Prime Minister has urged Iran to withhold taking any military action against Israel.
In a recent phone conversation with Iran’s new president, Prime Minister Starmer emphasized the “serious risk of miscalculation” and called for “calm and careful consideration” during this tense period.
This marks the first conversation between a UK prime minister and an Iranian president since March 2021, when former Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke with Hassan Rouhani.
The 30-minute phone call coincided with a joint statement issued by the UK, alongside the US, France, Italy, and Germany, urging Iran to cease its threats against Israel.
The statement called on Iran to “stand down its ongoing threats of a military attack against Israel” and highlighted the potential for serious consequences to regional security if such an attack were to occur.

The leaders, who communicated via a conference call, also voiced their support for Israel’s right to defend itself against Iranian aggression and attacks by Iran-backed terrorist groups.
Concerns about a broader conflict in the Middle East have escalated following the recent assassinations of key Hezbollah and Hamas figures.
In response, the US has ordered the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group, equipped with F-35C fighter jets, to expedite its deployment to the region.
