The leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress has warned of a nationwide strike if their President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, is detained by the police.

This threat was issued following an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, where it was decided that Ajaero should honor the police invitation, but with a request for more time through the union’s legal advisor.

Governor Fubara Refutes PDP Exit Rumors

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has denied rumors that he plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Reaffirming his commitment to the party, Fubara stated that Rivers State remains a PDP stronghold.

His statement was made during a visit from a delegation of the PDP Board of Trustees, led by Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Daser David as the new President and CEO of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI). David, a respected academic and industry expert, was appointed alongside two new executive directors for Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT): Reuben Oshomah (Marketing) and Mrs. Adama Kure (Finance and Administration).

CBN Credits Monetary Policies for Inflation Drop

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has attributed the decline in headline inflation in July 2024 to its monetary tightening policies.

CBN spokesperson Sidi Hakama made the statement, noting the reduction from 34.19% in June to 33.40% in July, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics.

Former Governor Ogbonnaya Onu’s Burial Set for November 8

The burial of former Governor of old Abia State, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has been scheduled for November 8, 2024.

Onu, who passed away on April 11, 2024, at the age of 73, will be laid to rest in his hometown, Uburu, Ohaozara LGA, Ebonyi State.

Gunmen Kill Police Corporal in Delta State

A police corporal, Chibuzor Ojobule, was killed in an attack by gunmen on a police patrol team in Delta State.

The incident occurred on August 18 along Commissioner Road off UTI, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.

The attackers ambushed the police vehicle, fatally shooting Ojobule, who was the driver, before fleeing the scene.

INEC Presents Voters Register for Edo Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the certified true copy of the voters register to political parties participating in the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State.

The register was presented by Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, to party representatives, including Labour Party candidate Barrister Olumide Akpata, amid ongoing leadership disputes within the party.

AGF Reveals Missing Case File in Onnoghen’s Trial

The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (AGF) informed the Court of Appeal on Tuesday that it does not possess the case file for the trial of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Samuel Walter Nkanu Onnoghen.

This comes five years after Onnoghen was prosecuted by the federal government for false declaration of assets, found guilty, and removed from office by the Code of Conduct Tribunal in 2019.
