Over 130 Pan-Yoruba Groups To Hold Summit On Sustainable Democracy In Lagos

Over 130 pan-Yoruba groups are set to convene in Lagos on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, to discuss the state of the nation at a summit themed “Sustainable Democracy in Nigeria: The Role of Non-state Actors.”

Leaders from civil rights and community-based organizations across Ekiti, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara, Delta, and Edo states, along with representatives from West Africa and other regions of Nigeria, will be in attendance.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the summit is expected to draw around 1,500 participants, including media representatives, professional groups, and South-West state government officials.

In a statement, Mr. Popoola Ajayi, General Secretary of the organizing groups, emphasized the importance of the gathering, noting that the AYDM, the largest coalition of pan-Yoruba groups with 130 member organizations, is focused on addressing Nigeria’s current challenges.

The coalition includes diverse groups such as the O’odua Peoples Congress (OPC), South-West Professional (SOWPROF), Agbekoya, United Itsekiri Peoples Congress (UIPC), Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), and several others representing artisans, students, and professionals from across the South-West and beyond.
