BREAKING: Resident Doctors Begin Nationwide Strike
The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced a seven-day warning strike, set to begin at midnight on Monday, August 26, 2024.
This nationwide industrial action is in protest of the ongoing captivity of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a member of NARD who has been held hostage for over eight months.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the NARD President, Dr. Dele Abdullahi, made the announcement in a statement released to the media.
The decision to initiate the strike was made during a virtual Emergency National Executive Council meeting convened on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Abdullahi emphasized that the strike will be comprehensive, with no emergency services provided during this period.
Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, was abducted nearly eight months ago along with her husband and nephew. While her husband was released in March, Dr. Popoola and her nephew remain in captivity.

Recently, NARD members have organized protests at tertiary hospitals across the country, demanding the immediate release of Dr. Popoola.
