FG to Introduce NYSC-Equivalent Training Program for NCE Graduates
The Ministry of Youth Development is working on a new training program for graduates of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) that will be similar to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the announcement was made by the Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr. Olawande Wisdom, during the BEMORE OYO 2024 Summer Bootcamp opening in Ibadan yesterday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Wisdom revealed that the ministry plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Education to introduce various training reforms, including a program modeled after the NYSC for NCE graduates.
He pointed out that while the NYSC caters to university graduates, there has been no equivalent program for NCE holders and similar qualifications.

“Our main focus is on citizenship and training. We have the NYSC for university graduates, but what about those with NCE and other qualifications?” he said.
The new scheme aims to provide local training options, reducing the need for travel to other states.
Wisdom also stated the importance of addressing social issues and recognized the positive role of organizations like the Boys’ Brigade and Girl Guides in steering youth away from negative influences. He underscored that the ministry’s objective is to reinforce citizenship and training values through the proposed program.
He commended Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, founder of the BEMORE Empowered Girls Foundation, for her contributions to girls’ development and for raising standards.
Anyanwu-Akeredolu clarified that the BEMORE initiative is not funded by the Ondo State Government and is focused on nurturing future female leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
She stressed that development cannot be achieved without involving women and girls, citing her experiences as motivation for the initiative. “We cannot achieve development if we leave 50% of our population, made up of women and girls,” she stated.
