Eko hot blog reports that the Former Governor of Jigawa State and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sule Lamido, has raised concerns about internal sabotage within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging that some members are covertly working for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview with Lamido, a founding father of the PDP, shed light on the ongoing internal crisis within the party and the challenges it faces in its bid to reclaim power in the next general election.

He expressed disappointment that certain members of the PDP are undermining the party’s efforts by aligning themselves with the APC.

Lamido specifically pointed out that former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, had recently voiced support for Tinubu in 2027, following the lead of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who is now a key player in the APC-led administration.

“People who are in the PDP are also working for the APC and Tinubu,” Lamido lamented, describing the situation as a significant obstacle for the party.

Despite the challenges, Lamido remains optimistic about the PDP’s chances of returning to power, emphasizing the importance of identifying and rallying around members who are truly committed to the party’s goals.

However, he acknowledged the difficulty of overcoming Tinubu’s influence, describing the president as a formidable political figure who has managed to rise to power despite numerous adversities.

Reflecting on Tinubu’s political journey, Lamido noted that the president’s ability to overcome obstacles and outmaneuver opponents, including during the APC convention where he emerged as the party’s presidential candidate, underscores his strength and resilience.

“Tinubu is very daring; he is his own creation, he is a self-made man,” Lamido remarked, while cautioning against underestimating Tinubu’s influence in Nigerian politics.

Lamido also alleged that Tinubu had secured the support of some state governors through financial inducements during the APC convention, a move that he believes played a crucial role in Tinubu’s eventual victory.

He further claimed that former President Muhammadu Buhari had reservations about Tinubu and preferred Senate President Ahmed Lawan as his successor, but was ultimately unable to impose his choice.

Addressing the internal issues within the PDP, Lamido argued that the crisis is reflective of broader challenges within Nigerian society.

He stated that the problems facing the PDP are not unique to the party but are symptomatic of the wider issues of discipline, patriotism, and adherence to the rule of law in Nigeria.

“The PDP is a reflection of Nigerians’ attitudes and the character of Nigerians as a people,” Lamido stated, emphasizing that the success of any political institution in the country hinges on the willingness of the Nigerian people to prioritize collective interests over personal ambitions.

Lamido’s remarks underscore the complex dynamics within the PDP as it seeks to navigate internal divisions and external pressures in its quest to regain political power in Nigeria.
