Police Arrest 11 Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Arms, Ammunition in Kaduna

Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have arrested eleven suspected kidnappers and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in multiple operations across the state.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, the arrests are connected to the kidnapping of a District Head on August 14, 2024, who was released two days later.

Hassan explained that police operatives, in collaboration with local hunters, conducted raids in three villages within Lere Local Government Area, resulting in the arrest of five suspected kidnappers. The team also recovered a locally made single-barrel gun, a vehicle, a motorcycle, and several mobile phones.

Recovered items included one fabricated single-barrel gun, a green Golf vehicle, a Bajaj motorcycle, and eight mobile phones.

In a separate operation, six additional suspects were arrested at a motor park, leading to the seizure of four fabricated AK-47 rifles, two English pistols, two pump-action guns, and a large amount of cash.

Additionally, police operatives apprehended a suspected bandit at a hotel in the Tafa area of Kagarko Local Government Area, following credible intelligence about his criminal activities.

“On September 2, 2024, at around 9:00 PM, acting on intelligence about suspicious movement, police operatives ambushed a motor park. During the search, four fabricated AK-47 rifles were discovered hidden within a consignment.

Furthermore, on September 3, 2024, at about 10:00 PM, police operatives, acting on a tip-off, arrested a suspected bandit at a hotel in the Tafa area.

The suspect, Yahaya Yusuf (41), from Kabo Village in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, confessed to engaging in cattle rustling and kidnapping in both Niger and Kaduna States. A Tecno cellphone was recovered from him.

The Commissioner of Police for Kaduna State urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement and reassured that the command will intensify its efforts to combat criminal activities across the state.
