A devastating Russian strike on an apartment block in Kharkiv, Ukraine, has left a trail of destruction and devastation, with at least 41 people injured and fears of others trapped under the rubble.

The attack has sparked widespread condemnation and outrage, with Ukrainian officials and human rights organizations calling for immediate action.

The strike, which hit the 12-story building with a guided aerial bomb, has left three children among the injured and one person reported missing.

Emergency services are racing against time to rescue those trapped and provide medical aid to the injured.

As the search and rescue operation continues, concerns grow about the potential for more casualties.

“There may be people under the rubble,” said Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv city military administration.

In a heartwarming moment amidst the chaos, a resident refused to evacuate without his dog, prompting emergency services to rescue both the man and his pet from the smoke-filled apartment.

The attack has sparked a fire on the ninth floor, completely destroying three apartments and damaging dozens of cars.

Hundreds of windows have been shattered, leaving residents shaken and fearful.

“This is civil infrastructure,” said Dmytro Lubinets, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.

“Russia massively violates human rights and international humanitarian law. The reaction must be here and now.”

As the international community calls for an end to the violence, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeated his plea for more military support from allies.

“The world must help us defend ourselves against Russian military aircraft and the dozens of guided aerial bombs that claim Ukrainian lives every day,” he said in a social media post.

With the toll from Russian strikes mounting, Zelensky emphasized the urgent need for decisive action.

“This terror can be stopped. But to stop it, the fear of making strong, objectively necessary decisions must be overcome. Only decisiveness can bring a just end to this war.”
