Tinubu To Submit 2025 Budget As N’Assembly Resumes Today
As the National Assembly resumes today (Tuesday) from its annual recess, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele announced on Monday that both chambers are expecting President Bola Tinubu to present the 2025 budget alongside the new Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper.
In a statement personally signed by Bamidele, he emphasized the importance of the MTEF, noting that it must be prepared before the 2025 Appropriation Bill can be laid before the National Assembly.

“The consideration of MTEF occupies a prime place on the rung of our legislative agenda,” Bamidele stated, adding that it serves as the legal framework for the budget and is typically submitted to the parliament ahead of the President’s yearly budget presentation.
The Senate Leader also highlighted the continuation of the ongoing Constitution review process, which will take its full course in the coming months. Chaired by Deputy Senate President Senator Jibrin Barau, the Constitution Review Committee plans to hold retreats, call for memoranda, and organize zonal meetings on sections of the 1999 Constitution that need amendment.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that additionally, Bamidele revealed plans to form a joint committee to probe alleged oil theft, a matter previously handled by a Senate ad hoc committee. He emphasized the National Assembly’s commitment to addressing challenges in the petroleum industry, including crude oil theft, refinery maintenance, and fuel supply issues.
Assembly Resumes Today
Akin Rotimi, the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, echoed Bamidele’s sentiments in a separate statement, listing key issues for consideration as the 2025 appropriation bill, constitution review, and electoral reforms. He stressed the importance of timely budget submission by the executive to ensure thorough scrutiny and public input.
Rotimi also noted that the House is committed to maintaining the January-December budget cycle and will prioritize bills and motions aligned with the legislative agenda, particularly those that address urgent national issues like insecurity and the recent flooding in Maiduguri.
The House Committee on Constitution Review, chaired by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, will accelerate efforts to address pressing issues and align laws with public needs, having received over 305 memoranda from the public and about 150 constitution alteration bills from lawmakers.
