The Federal Government has approved an increase in NYSC Corps Members’ monthly allowance to ₦77,000, effective from July 2024.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Embu cited a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by its Chairman, Ekpo Nta.
Before the approval, NYSC Director-General Brigadier General YD Ahmed had advocated for improved welfare for Corps Members during a visit to the commission. He expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, stating that the raise would bring relief to Corps Members, boost their morale, and inspire greater dedication to national service.
Previously, Corps Members received ₦33,000 per month. The allowance was last increased in 2020, from ₦19,800 to ₦33,000, following the implementation of a ₦30,000 minimum wage.
In late July, President Bola Tinubu signed the new minimum wage bill into law, raising the national minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000 after months of negotiations between the government, labour unions, and the private sector.
