UK Watchdog Bans Naomi Campbell from Charity Trusteeship for Misuse of Funds
British supermodel Naomi Campbell has been banned from serving as a charity trustee in the United Kingdom for five years.
The ban follows a UK watchdog’s investigation that revealed charity funds were misused for luxury spa treatments and hotel stays.
The UK Charity Commission, responsible for registering and regulating charities in England and Wales, reported that only 8.5% of the charity’s total expenditures over six years, starting in 2016, were allocated to charitable grants.
The commission’s statement indicated that charity funds were used to cover Campbell’s stays at luxury hotels, spa treatments, and even cigarettes.
In response to the findings, Campbell expressed her concern in an interview with AP, stating, “I just found out about the findings today. I am extremely concerned. I wasn’t in control of my charity; I entrusted its management to a legal employer.”
