Nigeria@64: ALGON Reaffirms Commitment To Grassroots Development
The Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, has felicitated with Nigeria as it marks 64th year anniversary of nationhood.
In a congratulatory message on Monday in Lafia, Nasarawa state, ALGON National President, Hon Aminu Mu’azu said the occasion is to reflect on Nigeria’s democratic journey and honor the sacrifices that have shaped the nation.
Mu’azu reiterated ALGON’s commitment to fostering unity, peace and prosperity, recognizing local governments as pillars of national development.
“We celebrate Nigeria’s resilience, unity, and democratic progress, reaffirming our commitment to patriotic values, grassroots development, and inclusive growth.
“May this milestone inspire renewed hope, unity, and progress for our great nation. ALGON warmly felicitates with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Executive Council, the National Assembly, Governors of the 36 states and FCT, the Judiciary, 774 Local Governments and Area Councils, and the entire Nigerian populace, including civil servants, traders, market women, youths, organized private sectors, trade unions, mass media, and citizens both at home and abroad, on the momentous occasion of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day,” he said.
The National President also applauded Nigerian leaders and citizens for recognizing local governments’ crucial role in driving prosperity, stressing that the recognition followed the Supreme Court’s grant of financial autonomy.
He said over 12 states have so far conducted local government elections in four months of the landmark judgment, adding that the development has demonstrated significant compliance for progress.
The ALGON boss said the association remains committed to promoting accountability, good governance, and service delivery, aligning with internationally recognized standards in grassroots governance.
He said ALGON will continue to conduct regular needs assessments, due diligence, and oversight performance evaluations which have been in progress through zonal National Executive Council Meetings.
“ALGON remains dedicated to empowering local governments, ensuring accountability, and fostering sustainable development,” Mu’azu concluded.
