EKO HOT BLOG reports that the directive was communicated through a letter issued by H.T. Ejibunu, the Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, to the Acting Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
The announcement was made at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Tuesday.
This requirement is set to take effect from January 1, 2025.
The letter stated, “I am directed by the Honourable Minister of Aviation to convey to you his decision to mandate all outbound flights from Nigeria, especially foreign airlines, to patronize local caterers for on-board meals.”
The directive emphasizes the need for airline operators to strictly adhere to this decision, reinforcing the government’s commitment to promoting local businesses.
“Consequently, you are hereby directed to convey the decision to all foreign airlines for strict compliance beginning from 1st of January, 2025,” the statement added.
This initiative is expected to enhance the visibility of Nigerian culinary offerings on international flights and support local caterers in their businesses, contributing to the overall growth of the aviation and hospitality sectors in Nigeria.
