Bayer Leverkusen and Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is set to miss Wednesday’s Champions League match against Brest following a car accident on Sunday.

Boniface did not participate in training on Tuesday, and German outlets Bild and Kicker reported that he was absent when Leverkusen’s flight departed for France later that day.

The accident occurred when the 23-year-old’s car collided with a truck on the autobahn. Boniface shared images and videos on social media, showing a black Mercedes with significant damage, alongside photos of his bloodied arm.

Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes confirmed that Boniface avoided serious injury but remains doubtful for the upcoming match.

“It’s still open at the moment, a situation like this is not easy and he needs to get over it,” Rolfes said.

“We’re all very happy that nothing serious happened to him.”

Boniface has seven goals in 10 games in all competitions this season. His likely replacement, Czech forward Patrik Schick, has one goal in eight games in all competitions.
