The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has partially restored electricity to seven northern states after a nine-day blackout caused by vandalism on the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line.

TCN announced that power was restored to Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe states at 4:56 PM on Wednesday following repairs to the 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement signed by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company confirmed the line restoration as part of ongoing efforts to repair the damaged infrastructure.

The disruption, which began on October 22, initially affected the North-East, North-West, and parts of the North-Central regions after the 330kV Ugwaji–Apir double circuit transmission lines 1 and 2 tripped due to a fault.

TCN’s engineers located the fault, but insecurity in the area delayed repairs until security assistance was ordered by President Bola Tinubu. With the partial restoration of line 1, the Apir-Lafia 330kV transmission line 2 is also now operational, enabling bulk power distribution to the affected states.

TCN noted that further restoration work is underway, with preparations in place to repair the second 330kV transmission line as soon as the site is secure.

“All necessary materials are ready, and repairs will start immediately once the area is safe for our personnel,” the statement read. TCN thanked residents for their patience and emphasized its commitment to swiftly completing the repairs to increase power supply in the affected regions.

Despite the progress, several states, including Sokoto, Zamfara, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kogi, Benue, Jigawa, and Katsina, remain in complete blackout.
