Police Detain Activist VeryDarkMan Following Uniform Video Apology
Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju disclosed that Martins Vincent Otse, known as social media activist “VeryDarkMan,” has been detained by the Nigerian Police following a recent incident involving the use of a police uniform.
According to Naija News, this detention came hours after Otse publicly apologized to the police in a viral video for wearing attire resembling an official police uniform. Adeyanju, posting on social media platform X on Thursday night, confirmed that Otse was detained after responding to a police summons.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Adeyanju stated, “Our client, VDM, has been detained after honoring police invitation just like yesterday. VDM has consistently said that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we all know they are not.”
The police reportedly initiated an investigation after Otse wore a police uniform in a recent online video, in which he humorously identified himself as the “Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) of the Online Division.” The appearance sparked criticism, with authorities condemning his use of the uniform, citing it as inappropriate.
Responding to the backlash, Otse released an apology video on Thursday, expressing regret for any misunderstanding caused by the uniform. He clarified that his intention was not to impersonate an officer and urged Nigerians to avoid wearing police uniforms without proper authorization to prevent legal complications.
“I didn’t intend to impersonate the police in any way, and I tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria Police Force and the office of the Inspector General of Police,” Otse said, adding that he was questioned at the police station regarding his attire.
