The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of making reckless and unfounded attacks against the ruling party and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Makinde made these remarks during a recent event in Ibadan on Saturday, blaming the APC for the turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition groups. He asserted that the 2027 presidential election will pit Nigerians against the ruling party.
In response, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka released a statement on Sunday, labeling Makinde as a misguided figure pursuing his 2027 political ambitions.
“While our democracy grants Makinde the freedom to pursue his political goals, his reckless behavior, which detracts from his responsibilities as Governor, is a disservice to the people of Oyo State,” Morka stated.

He further criticized Makinde and the PDP leaders for shifting blame instead of accepting responsibility for their party’s ongoing issues.
“Makinde’s irrational pursuit of his 2027 ambitions cannot be built on unfounded attacks against our esteemed party or President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which is leading the most ambitious reform efforts in our nation’s history to transform the economy and establish a solid foundation for progress,” Morka continued.
He highlighted the country’s improved economic indicators, noting that Nigeria is now exporting more than it imports, with a trade surplus of nearly ₦7 billion as of the end of Q2 2024. He cited a significant improvement in the revenue-to-debt service ratio, which has decreased from 97 percent in 2023 to 68 percent in 2024, along with foreign reserves exceeding $40 billion and economic growth of 3.19%.
Morka emphasized that, despite these advancements, Makinde has failed to demonstrate effective leadership, with his lackluster performance as governor undermining his credibility.
Instead of addressing the local needs of the Oyo people who elected him, Makinde appears to be squandering state resources on his unhinged ambition for 2027, the APC spokesperson argued. He stressed that the complexities of Nigeria’s challenges require more than Makinde’s self-serving ambitions.

The statement concluded, “Makinde cannot even represent the people of Oyo regarding their future electoral decisions, let alone speak for all Nigerians. He and his partisan associates are likely anxious that the forthcoming transformation and prosperity resulting from President Tinubu’s economic policies will render their 2027 ambitions politically irrelevant.
We encourage Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support for President Tinubu as the administration’s reform policies begin to yield positive outcomes for all.”
