President Bola Tinubu promoted Acting Chief of Army Staff Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede to the rank of Lieutenant General on Tuesday, decorating him with his new insignia at a brief ceremony held at the State House in Abuja.
In a statement, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, conveyed that the President’s decision recognized Oluyede’s dedication and contributions to the Nigerian military.
“This promotion is in recognition of your unwavering commitment and exemplary service to the nation,” Tinubu stated, adding that Oluyede’s distinguished record is a testament to his dedication to Nigeria’s security.

At the ceremony, President Tinubu praised the armed forces for their resilience and dedication to safeguarding the country, highlighting the “remarkable synergy” among military branches in tackling terrorism and insecurity. He encouraged the service chiefs to maintain this unity to ensure stability, stating, “The harmony in your relationship has calmed the country, and we need that stability to continue.”
Tinubu also reassured the military of the government’s commitment to supporting their efforts toward a secure and prosperous Nigeria. “We face challenges, but progress is being made,” he noted, emphasizing the government’s openness to the military’s counsel in navigating national security issues.

Lt. Gen. Oluyede expressed his gratitude for the recognition, acknowledging the solemn responsibility of his new role and pledging to uphold the vision of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace and security across Nigeria.
Before his appointment as Acting COAS, Oluyede served as the 56th Commander of the Nigerian Army’s Infantry Corps in Jaji, Kaduna. He and Lagbaja are coursemates from the 39th Regular Course, and Oluyede was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1992.
Over his career, he has held numerous command positions, including Platoon Commander, Company Commander, and Commandant of the Amphibious Training School. He has also participated in key military operations, such as ECOMOG in Liberia, Operation HARMONY IV in Bakassi, and Operation HADIN KAI in the North East, where he led the 27 Task Force Brigade.
