The appointment comes just three days after Donald Trump’s re-election to a second term, widely celebrated in Israel due to his strong pro-Israel stance.
Leiter, who has also served as deputy director general in the Education Ministry and acting chairman of the Israel Ports Company, brings extensive government experience to the role. His son was tragically killed last year while serving in the Israeli military during the Gaza conflict with Hamas.

Leiter, a resident of the Gush Etzion settlement area, has been a prominent advocate in international outreach efforts supporting Israeli settlements in the West Bank, often referred to as Judea and Samaria by Israelis.
