MC Oluomo Shuns Court Ruling, Assumes NURTW Presidency
Days after the Court of Appeal in Abuja nullified his presidency, Musiliu ‘MC Oluomo’ Akinsanya has assumed office as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
This marks the first time MC Oluomo has publicly declared taking office since the appellate court reaffirmed Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate president.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that MC Oluomo, who was elected unopposed during a union election at the zonal secretariat in Osogbo, had his presidency nullified by a three-member appellate panel. Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi upheld the National Industrial Court’s ruling on March 11, which recognized Baruwa as the rightful president.
The court also awarded N100,000 in costs against MC Oluomo in favor of the respondents. Following the ruling, prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana called on the federal government to ensure the immediate reinstatement of Baruwa as the legitimate NURTW president.
Falana urged the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to enforce the court’s decision and Baruwa’s leadership.
This defiance has raised concerns about the enforcement of judicial decisions, with calls for the government to uphold the rule of law within the union.
